Getting started
How does clipboard sync work?
When you copy something on one device, Clipiphany securely syncs it to your other devices in real time via our cloud servers. All data is encrypted in transit using TLS. You can also use Clipiphany in local-only mode without cloud sync.
Which platforms are supported?
Clipiphany is available on macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android, plus a web dashboard for account management. Your clipboard history syncs across all of these. The macOS app runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
How do I set up Clipiphany on a new device?
Install the app for your platform, sign in with your Clipiphany account, and syncing starts automatically. No pairing codes or approval prompts are needed — any device you sign in to becomes part of your account and shows up in your Devices list. You can sign in on as many devices as you like.
Can I use Clipiphany without an account?
The desktop apps (macOS and Windows) work without an account for local clipboard history. An account is required for cloud sync across devices.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — new accounts get a 7-day free trial of Pro features on their first paid subscription. You get the full Pro storage quota and every capture tool during the trial. Cancel before the trial ends and you won't be charged. One trial per account.
What's included in a Pro subscription?
A Pro subscription includes real-time clipboard sync across all your devices, cloud storage (1 GB and up depending on plan), and every capture tool — screenshot, scrolling screenshot, screen recording, image annotation, and the built-in video editor. An active subscription is what keeps the apps in active-capture mode; when a subscription lapses, apps stop capturing new clips and sync pauses, though existing clips stay viewable for a retention period.
Sync, storage, and offline
Where are my clips stored — locally or in the cloud?
Both. When you copy something, the content is saved locally and uploaded to the cloud so other devices can access it. Other devices download a small thumbnail for every clip so your history is instantly browsable, and fetch the full file on demand when you open or paste it.
Can I keep everything downloaded for offline access?
Yes. In Settings, enable "Always download all clips" and Clipiphany will automatically download the full content of every clip on that device as soon as it syncs. Useful if you travel or expect to be offline for a while. Uses more device storage and mobile data.
What happens if I run out of storage?
Existing clips are never deleted, but new clips stop uploading to the cloud until you free space. Delete large clips you no longer need, or upgrade to a larger plan. Enterprise plans give each license its own storage quota.
Is there a limit on how many devices I can sign into?
No — sign into as many devices as you want. All devices share the same clipboard history and storage quota. You can see and manage signed-in devices in the web dashboard.
Can I use Clipiphany offline?
Yes. All desktop and mobile apps keep a local copy of your clips and work fully offline. Clips sync the next time you're online. If you stay offline for more than 3 days, the app temporarily enters read-only mode until it can verify your subscription — to avoid this on long trips, enable "Always download all clips" before going offline.
Privacy and security
Is my clipboard data private?
Yes. We do not access, review, or analyze your clipboard content. Data is encrypted in transit and stored securely. You can configure privacy filters to exclude sensitive apps like password managers. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Does Clipiphany capture what I copy from my password manager?
No. Clipiphany ships with a built-in privacy filter that ignores copies from common password managers (1Password, Bitwarden, LastPass, Dashlane, Keeper, KeePassXC, Enpass, NordPass, RoboForm, Apple Keychain, and more). You can add or remove apps from that list in Settings. Clipiphany also detects and skips content that looks like credit card numbers, passwords, SSNs, or private keys before it ever leaves the device.
Features
What capture tools are included?
On macOS and Windows, Clipiphany includes screenshot (full screen, window, or area), scrolling screenshot for full web pages and long documents, screen recording with optional webcam overlay and microphone audio, image annotation (shapes, text, arrows, blur, highlights), and a built-in video editor (trim, cut, adjust speed). Captures land in your clipboard history and sync across devices like any other clip.
What are Live Annotations?
Live Annotations (macOS and Windows) is a transparent drawing overlay that lets you draw directly on your screen during presentations, demos, or video calls. It sits on top of every other window so you can point, circle, or annotate whatever's on screen in real time without capturing anything.
What are the default keyboard shortcuts?
On macOS: Option + ` opens your clipboard, Option + C screenshot, Option + X scrolling screenshot, Option + V recording, Option + A Live Annotations. On Windows: Alt + W clipboard, Alt + C screenshot, Alt + X scrolling screenshot, Alt + V recording, Alt + A annotation. All shortcuts are customizable in Settings.
How do I share a clip with someone?
Open a clip's detail view and choose Share → Create link. Clipiphany generates a unique URL anyone can open in a browser — no account required. Links expire automatically after 7 days for security, and you can revoke a link any time from the clip's detail view.
iOS and platform permissions
How do I set up the keyboard extension on iOS?
Go to iOS Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard > Clipiphany. Then enable "Allow Full Access" so the keyboard can read your clipboard. The keyboard extension lets you paste any clip directly into any app, and is also how iOS copies get captured and synced.
Why don't my iPhone copies sync to the cloud automatically?
iOS restricts background clipboard access for privacy reasons — no app, including Clipiphany, can read the clipboard while in the background. The Clipiphany keyboard extension is the workaround: it captures clipboard content at the moment you paste. Enable it in iOS Settings and grant Full Access.
Can I use Apple's Universal Clipboard as a workaround?
Yes. If you own both an iPhone and a Mac signed into the same iCloud account with Handoff enabled, Apple's Universal Clipboard will carry your iPhone copy to your Mac automatically within a few seconds. Once it lands on the Mac, Clipiphany captures it and syncs to your other devices.
What permissions does Clipiphany need on each platform?
macOS: Screen Recording for screenshots and screen recording, plus Microphone and Camera if you use audio or webcam overlays during recording. iOS: Full Access on the Clipiphany Keyboard to read your clipboard at paste time. Android: Accessibility Service permission to detect clipboard changes in the background (Google's required pathway for background clipboard access). Windows: no extra permissions. We only request what's needed for each feature.
Account management
I deleted a clip by accident — can I recover it?
Yes, for up to 7 days. Deleted clips are moved to a trash and kept recoverable for 7 days before being permanently removed. Open the Trash view in Clipiphany and restore any clip you still need.
Are inactive clips ever automatically deleted?
Your clips stay as long as your account is active. If your subscription lapses, clips aren't deleted right away — you keep read-only access. If your account stays inactive for an extended period, clips older than 30 days from the time of lapse may be cleaned up to reclaim cloud storage. Resubscribing restores upload and capture before retention kicks in.
How do I sign out of a single device?
Sign in to the Clipiphany web dashboard, go to Devices, and click Remove next to the device you want to sign out. That device will stop syncing and need to sign in again to reconnect. Other devices are unaffected.
How do I delete all clips on my account?
Open Clipiphany on a desktop or mobile device and go to Settings > Delete all account clips. This permanently removes every clip from your account on every device and from the cloud (including images, videos, and thumbnails). This cannot be undone — copy anything you want to keep first. Your account, subscription, and settings are untouched.
How do Enterprise accounts work?
Enterprise accounts let an owner buy a pool of licenses and invite team members by email. Each license includes its own storage quota. Members install Clipiphany, accept the invite, and start syncing — the owner handles billing centrally through Stripe. The owner can add or remove licenses any time; removing a member frees their license for reuse. Owners can choose whether to use a license themselves or manage the account without counting against the license pool.
How do I cancel my subscription?
For web/desktop subscriptions, go to Settings > Account and manage your subscription. For iOS, cancel through the App Store (Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions). For Android, cancel through Google Play (Play Store > Payments & subscriptions).
What happens to my data if I stop paying?
Your clipboard history remains accessible locally. After your billing period ends, your account drops to read-only in the cloud — new clips won't be captured or synced, but existing clips remain viewable. Clips are retained; resubscribing restores full access.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings > Account > Danger Zone > Delete Account in any Clipiphany app. This permanently deletes your account and all associated data (clips, recordings, devices, tokens). For legal and fraud-prevention reasons we retain a minimal record of billing history. If you have an App Store or Google Play subscription, cancel it separately to avoid continued charges.
Developers
Does Clipiphany have a public API or integrations?
Clipiphany doesn't currently offer a public developer API, user-facing webhooks, or third-party integrations (like Zapier or Shortcuts). If you have a use case that would benefit from one, use the contact form at the top of the page — we'd love to hear about it.
