Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 12, 2026

1. Introduction

Clipiphany ("we," "our," or "us") is operated by TruSoftware LLC, a limited liability company organized under the laws of the State of Texas. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, store, and protect your personal information when you access or use the Clipiphany application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By accessing or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must discontinue use of the Service immediately.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect the following information:

  • Email address (used for authentication, communications, and account recovery)
  • Password (hashed using Argon2id, an industry-leading key derivation function; we never store plaintext passwords)
  • Device identifiers and names for sync functionality

2.2 Clipboard Data

The core functionality of Clipiphany requires monitoring your system clipboard. This includes text, rich text, images, files, and other content types that you copy. Your clipboard data is handled as follows:

  • Stored locally on your device in an application-sandboxed database
  • If cloud sync is enabled, transmitted to and stored on our servers using TLS 1.2 or higher encryption in transit
  • You may disable cloud sync at any time and operate in local-only mode

We do not access, review, analyze, or use your clipboard content for any purpose other than providing the Service. We do not use your clipboard data for advertising, profiling, training machine learning models, or any secondary purpose.

2.3 Screen Recording and Capture Data

On supported platforms (macOS), Clipiphany includes built-in screen capture functionality that allows you to take screenshots and record your screen. These captures are saved as clipboard items and are subject to the same data handling practices described in Section 2.2.

What we collect via screen recording:

  • Screen content: Visual content displayed on your screen at the time of capture, saved as image (JPEG) or video (MP4) files
  • System audio: Optionally included in screen recordings if enabled by you
  • Microphone audio: Optionally included in screen recordings if enabled by you
  • Camera (webcam) video: Optionally included as a picture-in-picture overlay in screen recordings if enabled by you. Camera access is requested at runtime only when you choose to enable the webcam overlay feature

All screen recording features are user-initiated. Clipiphany does not record your screen, capture audio, or access your camera in the background or without your knowledge. Each optional input (system audio, microphone, camera) requires your explicit permission through a system-level permission prompt and can be independently toggled on or off before and during each recording.

How screen recording data is stored:

  • Locally on your device in the application's sandboxed cache directory
  • If cloud sync is enabled, transmitted to and stored on our servers using TLS 1.2 or higher encryption in transit, solely for the purpose of syncing across your registered devices
  • Permanently deleted from our servers upon account deletion; backups purged within 30 days

Screen recording data is never shared with third parties. We do not access, review, analyze, or use your screen recordings for any purpose other than providing the Service. We do not use screen recording data for advertising, profiling, training machine learning models, or any secondary purpose.

2.4 Privacy Filtering

Clipiphany includes configurable privacy filters that automatically detect and exclude clipboard content from designated applications (such as password managers and banking applications). You may configure excluded applications in the app settings.

2.5 Payment Information

Payments are processed exclusively through third-party payment processors including Stripe, Apple (App Store), and Google (Google Play). We do not receive, process, or store your credit card numbers, bank account details, or other payment instrument information on our servers. Please refer to the respective payment processor's privacy policy for information on their data handling practices.

2.6 Device and Technical Data

We may collect technical information including device type, operating system version, application version, IP address, and general usage patterns. This data is used solely to operate, maintain, and improve the Service and is not linked to your clipboard content.

2.7 Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect location data, contacts, browsing history, phone numbers, social media identifiers, or any biometric information.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • To synchronize your clipboard data across your registered devices

  • To comply with applicable legal obligations

We do not sell your data or use your information for targeted advertising. Every non-transactional email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers hosted within the United States. We implement commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including:

  • TLS 1.2+ encryption for all data in transit

  • Argon2id password hashing with unique salts
  • JWT-based authentication with token rotation

No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially reasonable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

5. Data Retention

Local clipboard data is retained in accordance with your subscription plan's history limits. You may manually delete individual clipboard items or clear your entire history at any time through the application.

Upon account deletion, all cloud-synced data, account information, and associated records are permanently and irreversibly removed from our servers. Backups containing your data are purged within 30 days of account deletion.

We may retain de-identified, aggregated data that cannot be used to identify you for analytical purposes.
